Lugol ist die flüssige Form von Iodoral. Beide enthalten eine Kombination aus iodiNe und iodiDe. Beide gehören zur Klasse der Verbindungen, die als „Halogene“ bezeichnet werden. Andere Halogene sind: Chlor, Brom und Fluor. Halogene sind starke Keimkiller.
